✦ Tiger's Eye

A quartz stone known for chatoyancy, the silky band of light that seems to glide across its surface when turned. It comes from parallel fibrous mineral inclusions reflecting light in a single direction, the same optical effect that gives cat's eye gems their name.

Found in South Africa, Australia and India, tiger's eye has carried a reputation for courage and protection across cultures for centuries, often worn as a talisman by soldiers and traders. Whether or not the legend is true, it's stuck for a reason.

✦ Freshwater Pearls

Formed inside freshwater mussels as they layer nacre around a small irritant, each pearl grows slowly over several years, which is why no two are ever quite alike in shape or shine. Baroque pearls, with their irregular curves, form when that growth is uneven, prized for character rather than perfect roundness.

Ancient myths believed them to be tears of the gods or fragments of moonlight fallen into the sea, tokens of beauty born from mystery. Today they remain one of the only gems that come from something alive rather than mined from the earth.
